     Crispy Microwave Bacon

Above: Very crispy bacon cooked in the microwave oven.

Ingredients
8-10 strips of bacon (we used hardwood smoked bacon)

Utensils and Supplies
microwave bacon cooker
plastic microwave splatter cover
paper towels

Above: Microwave bacon cooker tray.

Above: You'll need 8-10 strips of the bacon of your choice.

Above: Remove bacon from package.  Separate strips and place between uprights of bacon cooker tray.

Above: We usually leave some space between every other piece for more even cooking and fewer problems with the
pieces sticking together.  While this cooker can hold 14 slices, we only cooked ten.

Above: Insert the skewers to secure the bacon slices in place.

Now you are ready to place the tray in the microwave.

With the tray in place on a turntable, a microwave splatter cover is put over the tray to help keep the oven clean.
Microwave the bacon on full power, (we use a 1500 watt oven).  The time it takes to cook will depend on the thickness
of the slices and how many you are cooking.  For this bacon, which was 1/8 thick before cooking, we set the microwave
to cook for 5 minutes, and when the bacon was still a bit too pink, we went one minute more.  Bacon should appear
brown and crispy with no pink spots.

Once the bacon is cooked, carefully remove the tray from the microwave.  There will be hot bacon grease in the tray.
Lift the skewers and bacon out of the tray and then remove the skewers from the bacon slices.  Pat bacon slices with
a paper towel to remove any excess grease.

We save the bacon fat from the tray in a metal container with a strainer.  The bacon fat can be used for many other
purposes and adds great flavor to other dishes.

Above: Microwave bacon can be enjoyed warm from the oven for breakfast or anytime crispy bacon is required.
Makes excellent bacon bits, too.
