     KQ Onion Garlic Croutons

 



Above: We turned eight slices of bread, olive oil and some spices into crunchy croutons great for topping soups or salads.

Ingredients
8 1/2 inch thick slices of pugliese bread
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder


Utensils and Supplies
serrated bread knife
measuring spoons
cutting board
metal pie pans
wooden spoon
paper towels
cooling rack
airtight container (for storage)


Above: Ingredients to make the KQ Onion Garlic Croutons include pugliese bread.  You can use any bread you like.


Begin by preheating oven to 375 degrees.  Use a serrated bread knife to cut eight 1/2 inch thick slices of pugliese bread.


Above: Remove crust from all sides.



Above: Cut slices lengthwise into 1/2 inch batons.



Above: Break up bread batons into 1/2 to 3/4 inch pieces.



Above: We separated the bread pieces into two pans.



Above: Drizzle half of the olive oil over the bread pieces in each pan.

Sprinkle half of each of the four spices evenly over both pans of bread pieces, (salt, black pepper, onion power and
garlic powder).



Toss the croutons with your fingers.



Above: Both pans are ready to go into the oven.


Place the pans on the center rack of the oven, heated to 375 degrees.


Bake croutons for 10 minutes, then stir with a wooden spoon.  Bake for another ten minutes or until golden.


The croutons are ready when the edges just begin to get brown.


Place paper towels on a rack and spread out croutons and allow to cool.  Store croutons in an airtight container
at room temperature.
